        Welcome to the second year of STEAM Academy @ La Presa. As you know, STEAM stands for Science -Technology -Engineering-Art-Mathematics. One goal of our STEAM program is to prepare you for the STEM careers of the future, which can offer you lifelong satisfaction and security. Another goal is to develop the creative, artistic side of your brain that imagines new innovations to help us humans solve problems. In this way, STEAM education can be engaging, fun, and challenging, all at the same time! Alongside your Science and Math teacher, Mrs. Childers, I will be using computer technology, singing, role-playing, and dance throughout Language Arts, Social Studies, your STEAM Elective, and even PE. We will ask you to invent something new, learn to play a musical instrument, design and 3D print an object, make movies and presentations, learn coding and “cloud computing”, build a Minecraft house, and even video-conference with sixth graders from other places around the world. We will challenge you to help our planet by eliminating the need for paper in our classrooms, and learn “green” habits to reduce your “carbon footprint" at home. Finally, we will challenge you to overcome your own doubts and frustrations when something seems difficult, or even impossible. There is always a “workaround” if you stick to it! The creativity, collaboration, connection, and critical thinking you will develop at STEAM Academy will let you adapt to whatever challenges the future holds for you.
